Fire in power department in Muzaffarnagar village causes heavy loss

MUZAFFARNAGAR: The electricity corporation located in Muzaffarnagar’s Sujru village suffered a heavy loss on Wednesday due to a massive fire caused by a sudden spark from the wires of a transformer in the storage center that burnt goods and equipment worth crores, said SDO Rakesh Kumar.
According to officials, fire tenders in the area rushed to the spot upon getting information, but due to strong winds, the fire had already spread widely. To douse it, fire tenders from other stations in the district were called to the spot. After several hours of efforts by firefighters, the situation came under control.
Kumar said, “We are calculating the loss from the fire, but it will easily be over one crore. From where the fire broke out, two feeders are being operated in the name of cold store and industrial state. The supply from both the feeders was stopped due to which the work in 80 small and big factories operating in the area was interrupted.”
Meanwhile, the chairman of the Indian Industries Association (IIA), Vipul Bhatnagar alleged that the industrial units also incurred a loss of around Rs 1.5 crores after the power supply in the area got affected.
