A crew member was killed and two others injured, and one reported missing, after a fire broke out on a Malaysian-flagged tanker in the Outside Port Limits (OPL) waters between Indonesia and Malaysia on Monday. Slamet Riyadi, chief of the Tanjung Pinang Riau Islands Search and Rescue (SAR) Agency, said that his office had deployed personnel following a report by local fishermen. “Indonesian fishermen rescued two crew members and recovered a dead body, and these were later brought to Batam,” Slamet said on Tuesday. Multi tanker Tiger Star was on its way from Johor, Malaysia, to the OPL. “There was a fire in the ship’s engine room and on deck; the ship was at anchor and its generator was left running,” Slamet said. The search involves one boat from the SAR Agency, one from the Navy and two from Malaysia. (dre)
