12 shops gutted in fire in Kanpur market

KANPUR: About a dozen shops were gutted in fire in Shiv Plaza close to Sagar Market near Narohna crossing in Kanpur in the wee hours of Tuesday.
Chief fire officer Deepak Sharma said that a fire broke out in the basement of Shiv Plaza located at Noronha crossing at around 1am.
In no time, more than a dozen shops in the basement caught fire. As soon as the fire was reported, more than 15 fire tenders from Latouche Road, Colonelganj, Fazalganj and Kidwai Nagar fire stations reached the spot and did not allow the fire to spread further. After two-hour operation, the fire in the basement shops was brought under control.
The CFO said that there were mobile and electronic goods shops in the basement of the market.
The fire that broke out in a basement shop due to a short circuit engulfed the entire basement shops.
“However, timely action prevented the fire from spreading further,” said CFO further and added, “In the preliminary investigation, Shiv Plaza has also been found to be against the standards of fire fighting norms.”
