Fire breaks out in Sarlahi’s Indu Shankar Sugar Mill
Updated: 2014-05-10-22:44

RAUTAHAT: A massive fire was reported at Indu Shankar Sugar Mill in Hariwan, Sarlahi, today.

The fire started at about 2pm from the wastage of sugar mill.

As many as nine fire engines from six districts have been deployed to bring the fire under control.

Sarlahi police chief Rabindra Bahadur Dhanuk said that nine fire engines have been deployed from Chitwan to Janakpur to stop the fire from spreading into human settlements. He said that the fire would be taken under control by evening. Human settlements are about 100 meters from the incident site.

General Manager Bijaya Kanta Jha said that the reason behind the blaze is yet to be ascertained.

He added that the blaze might have been spread after someone threw a burning cigarette. The waste product from sugar mills is highly inflammable, especially during the summer when it dries up pretty quickly.

Strong and continuous wind, which is very common during this time of the year, helped spread the fire.

Jha said that they have managed to prevent the blaze from spreading to the main machine of the mill. Jha added that all the workers had gathered to douse the blaze after the emergency siren was switched on.

He informed that he was unable to tell the actual damage caused by the fire.
