Morning fire destroys 10 Labangon homes

CEBU, Philippines – At least 10 houses were burned down after fire hit Sitio Sta. Ana, Barangay Labangon, Cebu City past 1 a.m. yesterday.
The Fire Department received the alarm at 1:03 a.m. Responding firefighters, including volunteers, initially had difficulties in controlling the blaze because it started in the interior part of the barangay.
The firemen had to connect 10 hoses before they could start spraying the flames with water. Most of the destroyed houses were mostly made out of light materials.
The fire was declared under control at 1:32 a.m. but firefighters completely put it out only at 3:11 a.m.
Senior Fire Officer 2 Daniel Relatado Jr. said the fire, which reached second alarm, reportedly started in the house of Eleuterio Carisosa.
The flames immediately spread to the neighboring houses, which were also made of light materials.
Relatado said that though the fire happened in the wee hours, when people are mostly sleeping soundly already, no casualties have been reported.
“Dali ra nakamatikod ang mga residente nga naay sunog nanggawas dayon sa ilang balay (The people realized there was fire fast and got out of their homes immediately,” he said.
Nobody was also reported injured during the incident.
Relatado said they are investigating what triggered the blaze, but said it may likely be due to electrical misuse. He said they will invite witnesses to shed light in their investigation.
The Fire Department estimated the fire to have caused P100, 000 in damage. (FREEMAN)
