Failing to steal cash, goons set bank on fire in Rohtas

SASARAM: Thieves allegedly set a South Bihar Gramin Bank branch on fire at Sheosagar in Rohtas district after failing to break open the cash chest and lay their hands on the money late on Friday night.
The thieves also took away the DVR of the CCTV camera installed at the bank. Furniture, computers and several documents were reduced to ashes in the fire.
Manager of the bank branch, Mani Kant Shrivastva, said an iron grill of the window on the back side of the building was smashed by the thieves. “A match box was also found,” he added.
Shrivastava said the thieves torched the branch after a failed heist bid. An FIR against unknown miscreants was lodged at Sheosagar police station in connection with the incident.
Short-circuit caused the fire: Sasaram SDPO
However, Sasaram SDPO Santosh Kumar Rai said the fire was caused by a short-circuit. SHO Rakesh Gosai said police have begun an investigation to ascertain the actual cause of the fire.
Fire tenders took hours to douse the flames. Shrivastva said handles of the chest bolt as well as the door were found broken. “It will take some time to resume proper functioning at the bank branch. Senior officials of the bank visited the branch on Saturday,” he added.
