Fire breaks out at former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s official residence in Chandigarh; no injuries

CHANDIGARH: A fire broke out at the official residence of former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda in Chandigarh’s Sector 7 on Tuesday afternoon.
The fire erupted in the room of his son, Deepender Singh Hooda, caused by a short circuit in the air conditioning unit.
A bedroom air conditioner (AC) on the first floor caught fire. The flames spread inside another room on the floor, quickly engulfing the AC and filling them with thick smoke. Although the room’s walls and sealing were severely damaged, the fire was contained to the first floor.
The intense heat caused the ceiling fan to melt, and the room’s paint cracked while some pictures on the wall were burnt.
Hooda and his son Deepender Singh Hooda were not in the house at the time incident. There was damage to property on the first floor of the house.
The fire department arrived promptly and was able to extinguish the flames.
A member of the Hooda’s personal staff who was present in the house, said, “The fire started in an air-conditioner on the first floor of the house at around 1.30pm. The flames from the AC also spread inside another room, but the bed, sofas, almirahs and other furniture didn’t catch fire. The interior walls and ceiling were all blackened because of smoke and flames”.
Earlier, the staff, awaiting the arrival of Hooda, had switched on the AC, and had gone downstairs.
“Suddenly, we heard a loud noise and when we rushed to see the cause, we saw the AC engulfed in flames. The staff posted in the house got into action and started putting off the fire. The fire department was also immediately informed. A major incident was averted as the fire was brought under control within a short period of time”.
No injuries were reported.
