One person was reported killed in a fire that hit a warehouse in Manila’s busy Chinatown district in Binondo on Wednesday noon.
The fire started at 11 a.m. and reached Task Force Alpha as of 12:17 p.m., radio dzBB’s Glen Juego reported.
Firefighters placed the fire under control past 1 p.m., dzBB’s Cecilia Villarosa reported.
The body of the fatality, who investigators theorized died from suffocation, was found near the fire exit of the building along Sto. Cristo Street, radio dzBB reported.
An initial investigation showed the fire affected the building’s third to fifth floors.
While the fire was in progress, traffic along Sto. Cristo Street near Divisoria Mall area was disrupted as firefighters sought to put out the blaze.
Citing initial information, the report said the warehouse contained combustible materials including paper and plastic. — Joel Locsin/RSJ, GMA News
