Man sets class 11 girl on fire in front of her 8-year-old brother in UP’s Mainpuri

AGRA: A 22-year-old man set a 17-year-old girl on fire in front of her eight-year-old brother while their parents were away for work in a field in Nagala Pajab village under Kotwali police station of Mainpuri district on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Ankit Kumar, fled the spot after the incident and is on the run.
Hearing her screams, neighbours rushed to the spot and alerted police. The class 11 student died late at night while undergoing treatment.
The boy narrated the incident to the police and accused his neighbour, Ankit, of the crime.
He said the accused came to their house and started molesting his sister. When she objected, he poured kerosene on her and set her on fire”. The accused had proposed to her many times, but she never accepted, said the eight-year-old.
Superintendent of police (SP) Vinod Kumar said, “A case under various sections, including 302 (murder) and 452 (house-trespass), of the IPC has been registered against Ankit.”
The accused runs a photography shop in the village.
The girl’s father said, “After seeing his sister being burnt alive, my son went into shock. I want justice. My daughter’s killer should be punished.”
Station house officer (SHO) of the Kotwali police station, Rajesh Kumar, said, “Multiple raids are being conducted to arrest the accused, and the body of the girl has been handed over to the family after autopsy.”
He added, “Further investigation is on, and action will be taken accordingly.”
