Fire at Chittagong hospital
Updated: 2014-05-10-09:05
A private hospital in Chittagong, which was on fire on Saturday, will remain closed for the next two days, hospital authorities say.
There were over 50 patients at the ‘CSCR Hospital’ in the port city’s ‘Prabartak’ intersection when a fire erupted there around 8am.
The patients were moved to other local private hospitals, CSCR director Sanaullah Shelley said.
Fire fighters put out the fire within an hour, said Agrabad Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director Jasim Uddin.
No casualty was reported.
He suspected an electric short-circuit for the fire at the hospital’s accounts section on the eighth floor.
Jasim Uddin initially put the damage at Tk 1.1 million but the hospital authorities claimed it was at least 30 times more.
Meanwhile, the hospital authorities have decided to keep it shut until next Monday.
The fire service and district civil surgeon have formed two separate committees to probe the fire.
