First floor of garment shop gutted in Lajpat Ngr

NEW DELHI: A fire incident took place at a three-storey garment shop in central market of south east Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar on Monday. No casualty was reported.
According to the fire department, a call was received about the incident at 4.10pm and 10 fire tenders were sent to the spot. “We found that the affected shop was built on a 100-square yard, which included a basement. The fire started on the first floor and due to presence of combustible material, the blaze spread to the second floor. Thick smoke was coming out from the building,” a fire official said. The first floor was totally gutted.
The fire also affected some adjacent shops. It was brought under control by 5.58pm. The staff and customers were evacuated from the shops. The reason behind the fire was being investigated.
In the last one year, the fire department responded to 31,958 calls, including 11 medium and three serious incidents. TNN
