Updated: 2023-06-05
Kanpur: A major fire broke out at a restaurant in Barra area, on Sunday morning with at least two fire tenders rushing to the spot to bring the blaze under control. No one was injured in the incident.
The police said that the restaurant is owned by one Satya Prakash Gupta, resident of Barra-6 and it is located in the vicinity of his house. At around 5.30 am, the fire was noticed by the locals, who alerted the local police and Fire department. Around a half-a-dozen firefighters who arrived at the spot later took at least 45 minutes to bring the blaze under control.
Fire department officials who reached the spot said investigations are underway to ascertain the exact cause of the fire. “The fire engulfed the entire restaurant that was full of combustible material in the form of grocery items and plastic bottles. Apart from this, two bikes and a scooty were burnt completely. Five LPG cylinders including four commercial and one domestic, were also kept in the restaurant, which were removed by the firemen well in time, otherwise the accident could have been all the more disastrous,” they said. Barra inspector Manvendra Singh, however, said, “The blaze appears to have been caused by a short circuit. A thick blanket of smoke engulfed the restaurant within minutes. We called in nearly two fire tenders from various stations.”
