NEPALGUNJ: A man has set fire on the house of his own brother locking the latter’s wife and sons inside this morning.
Saddam Naun (23) of Jaispur-1 here torched the house of his elder brother Riyaz Ali over family dispute, police said.
Naun’s 23-year-old sister-in-law Chanda Salmani, and nephews Riyazul Naun (3), Rihan Naun (10) and Mariyam Naun (5), were critically injured in the arson.
All of them are undergoing treatment at Bheri Zonal Hospital, Nepalgunj. The house was also reduced to ashes.
According to police, Saddam sprayed petrol over the house at around 7 am when his nephews were still asleep. He closed all the windows and doors of the house before setting fire to it.
Local Meraj Salmani said that Chanda had pleaded her brother-in-law to spare her kids by letting her take them outside before the house was set on fire. “When the locals reached the house, the children inside were shouting for help,” he said.
Locals later broke up the walls and rescued the hapless woman and her kids.
Meanwhile, police have already arrested Saddam who was trying to escape towards the Indian border on a bicycle.
Police have also detained Saddam’s parents– father Meraj and mother Nirjahan– for investigation.
According to police, dispute had ensued between the two brothers over the ownership of a saloon in Dolpa.
The saloon under the ownership of the elder brother Riyaz was taken over by the younger brother recently after an agreement was struck between them that Riyaz would be given Rs 5,000 every month.
However, after Saddam stopped giving his brother the agreed amount, Riyaz went back to Dolpa and took over the business and sent his brother back home in Nepalgunj.
“This is the main reason behind Tuesday’s violence,” said Mitu Thapa Chhetri, In-charge of a local police post.
According to Chhetri, Saddam had also been giving mental and physical torture to his sister-in-law ever since he came home.
