A 71-year-old man died after being trapped in his house in a fire that hit a residential compound in Quezon City shortly after noon Wednesday.
Quezon City fire marshal Superintendent Jesus Fernandez said the fatality was the occupant of the house where the fire started, radio dzBB’s Divine Reyes reported.
The dzBB report also said the fire caused some P800,000 in damage to property.
A separate report on “24 Oras” said the fatality was identified as Jose Narselles,. His body was found in the restroom.
Relatives claimed Narselles tried to get back in the house and make sure his children were safe but failed to get out.
The “24 Oras” report cited initial findings indicating the fire started in the kitchen of Narselles’ house, which is in a compound on Erid Street in Barangay San Martin de Porres in Cubao, shortly before 1 p.m.
Findings by the Bureau of Fire Protection also indicated the fire started from an open flame.
The dzBB report said the fire reached the fourth alarm before it was placed under control at about 1:47 p.m. It was put out before 2 p.m., but not before it razed three other houses. — Joel Locsin/BM, GMA News
