Driver injured as Karnataka Express’ engine catches fire in Maharashtra, major tragedy averted

KOLHAPUR: The engine of Delhi-bound Karnataka Express caught fire at Ghatane village along Mohol-Kurduwadi rail route of Solapur division of Central Railways, on Sunday morning.
According to officials, the driver of the train stopped the train after the electrical installations from the engine short-circuited leading to the fire.
The train left Solapur railway station at around 7.50am after a 10-minute halt. The fire was reported an hour after the journey began.
The divisional authorities sent a spare engine for the train to resume its journey, after the fire was doused.
The driver suffered minor burn injuries and was admitted to a Mohol-based private hospital for treatment.
According to officials, the driver averted a major tragedy by stopping the train. The passengers suffered no injuries in the incident. The train will be running an hour and half late along the route.
