Updated: 2023-06-27
MUMBAI: A 55-year-old man died after a blaze broke out in his house at Prem Nagar in Goregaon (W) at 8.30am on Monday. Locals said the deceased, Harish Chauhan (56), lived on the first floor of the slum along with three others, all hailing from his hometown in UP.
Around 7.50am, he went to the kitchen to switch on the gas when a sudden spark caused fire and engulfed him completely.
Only Chauhan and one of his roommates, Sarafaraz, were home while the others were away. When the fire broke out due to LPG gas leakage, Chauhan tried to extinguish it by pouring water but to no avail. The regulator came off and the flames grew stronger and Chauhan’s clothes caught fire, said eye witnesses.
Sarfaraz rushed out to seek help while Chauhan was trapped as the door to the house was small. It took 10 minutes to take out the asbestos sheets and douse fire. Chauhan had suffered grievous injuries. He was rushed to hospital where he was declared brought dead.
