Fire breaks out in garment factory in Ludhiana, no casualties

LUDHIANA: A massive fire broke out in a garment manufacturing unit at Seera in Ludhiana district on Wednesday.
The firemen managed to control the flames in more than 2.5 hours but the entire operation continued for more than four hours. Luckily, no casualty was reported in the incident.
Fire officials claimed that fire took place at around 3pm and eight fire tenders were sent to the spot as it was located far away and they needed to carry ample water along.
The fire officials, however, found fire hydrants in the unit which helped them in carrying out the fire fighting operation swiftly.
The flames were reported from the first and second floor of the unit. Fire officials first reached the terrace of another unit located in front of the affected factory.
Sub-fire officer Aatish Rai, who was leading the team, said, “The fire was intense and initially it was difficult to enter the premises so we controlled it from terrace of the other unit.” He said the factory owner told them that there was a fire in a steamer machine in the unit which they had controlled with fire extinguishers but suddenly it caught fire again and situation went out of control.”
Meanwhile fire officials blamed poor condition of Seera Road for reaching the spot a little late.
The fire officials claimed that for a change there was satisfactory fire arrangements in the unit.
