Fire at Siyaganj mkt, 2 shops gutted
Updated: 2023-07-07
Indore: Two shops were damaged and assets and goods worth lakhs of rupees were destroyed after a fire broke out at Siyaganj market in Indore late night on Thursday.
One of the shops was completely gutted in the blaze which erupted at Siyaganj market, he said, adding there was so far no report of any casualty. SI Santosh Dubey said that the fire started at a pesticides and chemicals shop at Gautampurawala shop around 2:30 am due to a suspected short circuit gutting it completely. The flames also engulfed a portion of a nearby Ishwardas grocery shop, the official said.
A 25-member team of the fire brigade used around five lakh liters of water and 1,000 litres of foam to bring the blaze under control.
“The fire spread rapidly in the area because of blasts in oil and ghee boxes and containers,” said Dubey.
The fire officials faced a lot of difficulties in dousing the flames because of the excessive smoke in the area. Even after calling several times, the fire and police officials were not able to arrange for an earth moving vehicle. The smoke collected inside the shops and it was only after the vehicle reached there in the morning that the walls were broken and fire doused.
Soon after the incident, the nearby shop owners vacated their shops immediately.
Dubey said that four fire tenders were engaged in bringing the fire under control for several hours and a vehicle was stationed in the area in order to avoid any mishap. Police said that there was no casualty. TNN
