A 61-year-old man surnamed Tsai (蔡) was pulled out of his burning house in Yunlin County on Thursday, but was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Police in Yunlin County’s Shueilin Township (水林) were on patrol at around 4:00 Thursday morning when they discovered a house on fire, the Yunlin County Police Department said. The officers notified fire services, and then entered the house to search for survivors, when they found Tsai’s body laying on a pile of waste, it said.
Tsai was pulled from the house, but was not breathing, had no heartbeat, and did not respond to officers’ attempts to resuscitate him, it said.
The department said the house, a small brick bungalow, was filled with recyclables, and that an investigation into the cause of the fire was ongoing. Tsai is believed to have been living in the house alone, it said.
