Fire at rly station destroys electrical equipment

Nagpur: A major tragedy was averted at Nagpur railway station after a fire broke out in the lighting repairing room at platform number 7 on Tuesday.
No one was injured in the incident, said officials from NMC’s fire and emergency services department control room. Preliminary probe revealed that the fire was caused by short-circuit, they said.
According to sources, control room received a call at around 9.50am about fire near platform number 7. Soon a fire tender with four firemen from Ganjipeth station was rushed to the spot. It took nearly an hour to bring the fire under control. However, by that time the electrical equipment worth ₹1.50 lakh were destroyed.
Senior divisional commercial manager (SrDCM) Ashutosh Shrivastava said, “The exact cause of the fire has not yet been established. The room is at the end of the platform toward Itarsi end and remains closed most of the time.” TNN
