Fire injures four people in Samaypur Badli factory

Updated: 2023-07-25

NEW DELHI: Four people were injured after a fire broke out at a plastic bag manufacturing factory in Samaypur Badli on Monday. Police said while the cause of the fire was being ascertained, an initial investigation suggested that there might have been a short circuit.
The victims were identified as Subhita (46), Dinesh Kumar Yadav (24), Jitender Kumar (42) and Rakesh (26). All of them are factory workers.

Around 11.15am, police received a call regarding the blaze at Ambey Garden. “About 10 fire tenders were rushed to the spot and four people rescued during the operation. The injured were taken to a hospital for treatment,” a fire department official said.
As per the preliminary probe, the short circuit had occurred due to faulty wiring.
Delhi Fire Service director Atul Garg said that during the fire, there was a blast inside the factory due to which the four people who were working there got injured. They were rescued and sent to the hospital. The woman, Subhita, sustained 50% burn injuries in the incident.
Another fire official said that there were lots of combustible materials kept in the factory, which acted as a catalyst to help fire spread to other parts. The factory did not have any NOC from the fire department and there was no fire safety equipment available, he claimed.
“A case has been registered against Arun Jain (42), the owner of the factory. He has been booked for negligence. While three of the injured victims have been discharged from the hospital, one has been referred to a different hospital for special care,” the official added.
