Fire breaks out at basement of KOD, doused in one hour

GURGAON: A fire broke out at the basement of the Kingdom of Dreams building in Sector 29 on Wednesday, fire department officials said.
After getting information about the blaze, more than six fire engines were pressed into service to douse the flames, they said.
Kingdom of Dreams, which was earlier the centre of entertainment and theatre in NCR, was sealed by the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) last year due to arrears of Rs 107 crore.
A senior fire officer said that the cause behind the fire has not been ascertained yet and there is no information about any casualties in the incident.
According to the fire officer, some paint and batteries etc were kept in the basement where the fire broke out. “After an hour of efforts by fire-fighters, the blaze was controlled,” the officer added.
KOD, which has been in a protracted financial tussle, has been long past its heyday when its Bollywood musicals were a major crowd puller and opened a new dimension in the entertainment scene. One of them, Jhumroo, reached the 1,000 shows landmark in 2015. Recently, the premises were being rented out for weddings and gatherings.pti
