At least 21 dead in nursing home fire

Rescue workers were fearing a horror death toll after a fire broke out at a senior’s facility in Jangseong, South Jeolla Province, early Wednesday.
The blaze was believed to have started at around 12:27 a.m. As of 2 a.m., firefighters had extinguished the large flames, but the building was still heavy with smoke.
The nursing home had around 30 to 40 patients plus employees. While most of the patients and workers on the first floor managed to evacuate, firefighters said most of the people in the second floor failed to escape.
Many people were feared to have been seriously injured or died by the flames or by intoxication.
UPDATE-1
At 4:40 a.m., investigators were trying to identify the victims of the fire that left 21 people dead and 7 injured. The death toll could rise as six among the injured were in critical condition.
The cause of the blaze remained unclear.
Many of those who died probably never had a chance to escape — most of the patients at the nursing home were in their 70s, 80s and 90s and had little or no mobility. Depending on their medical conditions, some were confined
