SINGAPORE – A fire broke out at the Singapore Institute of Management’s (SIM) campus along Clementi Road on Thursday morning, but no one was injured.
In response to The Straits Times’ query, SIM said the fire occurred in a control room at Block B just before 9am.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told ST it was alerted to the fire at about 9.10am.
Investigations showed that the fire was due to a short-circuited portable air cooler, said Mr Gerald Lum, SIM’s brand, marketing and communication director.
He added that the sprinkler system in the control room extinguished the fire before the SCDF arrived.
All staff and students were able to evacuate safely and quickly, Mr Lum said, adding that campus operations were back to normal just before 10am. No injuries were reported.
“There was a class test on introductory psychology that ended around the same time the evacuation was made,” Mr Lum said. “We have made arrangements for students to re-sit the test if they wish to do so.”
