Fire erupts on Udaipur-Khajuraho Express, none hurt

Bhopal: Passengers traveling aboard the Udaipur-Khajuraho Intercity Express were faced with a harrowing incident today as a fire broke out in the train’s engine compartment just short of the Sithouli railway station near Gwalior. Passengers were evacuated promptly, and the fire was brought under control.
“The Udaipur-Khajuraho Intercity Express, which had departed from Gwalior station en route to Jhansi, was met with chaos when smoke began to billow from the engine compartment,” said police.
Upon detecting the fire, the train staff alerted the railway control room and the local fire brigade. Even before the fire brigade arrived, they took matters into their own hands and managed to control the fire by breaking the glass of the engine using the available fire-fighting equipment.
The preliminary cause of the fire is suspected to be a short circuit. Once the fire was successfully extinguished, the train was able to resume its journey to Khajuraho after being equipped with another engine.
A passenger on board the train, recounted the tense moments: “We were en route from Udaipur to Jhansi when the train suddenly came to a halt. As we disembarked, we noticed flames and smoke emerging from the engine. With the aid of two fire cylinders, the flames were eventually subdued, ” he said. tnn
