Firing causes panic; none injured

Updated: 2023-08-24

Dharwad: An incident of firing near Tiwac Company at Attikolla off Karnatak University campus on Wednesday morning caused anxiety. However none was injured in the incident as the revolver was aimed at the ground.

Vidyagiri police said the firing was a result of a disupte over land. Sushant Agarwal, a businessman from Mumbai owns 5.3 acres at the picturesque hill top on Mansur Road and he had constructed a compound wall and a small farm house. Pavan Kulkarni, who owns the adjacent land had a dispute with Sushant over the land. Sushant has put up a board on his land stating that the property belongs to him and tresspassers will be prosecuted.

Since the property is at a prime location overlooking the Attikolla (valley), the price of the land is quite high and there have been cases of unauthorised people encroaching upon the land and threatening legitimate owners.

On Wednesday, Sushant came to the site and found some people working there. He reportedly asked them why they were working on his land and told them to leave. “However, when those people started coming near him, Sushant feared that they may attack him and took out his licenced revolver and fired at the ground to scare them,” said an official. Those working on Sushant’s land fled the scene. On being informed, police arrived at the site and took Sushant to custody.

Both Sushant and Pavan are being questioned and both have filed complaints against each other. Ther revolver has been seized and an investigation is on,” said DCP (law and order) Rajeev Mang.
