VIJAYAWADA: Almost 450 two-wheelers were gutted in a major fire that broke out in a two-wheeler showroom in the city in the wee hours of Thursday.
According to fire authorities, the incident took place at Casa TVS motorcycle showroom and godown located on NH-16 service road near Maris Stella college in the city.
After noticing smoke from the first floor of the showroom early in the morning, the security staff informed the firefighters.
Altogether 3 fire engines were rushed to the spot and strived for around three hours to douse the blaze.
Around 350 new vehicles and around 100 vehicles kept for servicing were gutted in the fire incident.
District fire officer Shankar Rao said that around 1,000 vehicles were present in the showroom at the time of fire incident. Petrol vehicles and electric vehicles were placed in the same godwon and charging of electric vehicles is the suspected reason behind the fire.
Fire spread across the showroom in a span of minutes and we faced problems in controlling it, he added.
A case was registered against the agency and investigation is under way, Shankar Rao said.
