Major fire at Daria scrap market, no casualties

Chandigarh: A major fire broke out in a scrap (kabari) market of Daria on Saturday. Though no human loss has been registered, but thick smoke had engulfed the entire area. The exact reason of the fire is yet to be identified, but sources revealed that short circuit in the electric wires may be the reason behind the blaze.
According to locals, one shop was completly gutted in the fire, but the fire and emergency services department managed to save the other shops. Three to four fire tenders were pressed into the action, which controlled the fire within an hour, though, the thick smoke took three to four hours to settle down. For precautionary measure, one fire tender stationed there at the spot.
Significantly, many small cylinders were also found at the spot, but sources revealed that all these were used. “Besides cylinders, many big plastic boxes were found there, which exploded multiple time but not the cylinders. We received the fire call at around 2 pm and as soon as the information was received, the fire tenders were sent to the spot,” an official said. After the news spread, police personnel were also reached at the spot and helped the fire department.
