Manipur mortal shelling & firing leave 6 dead, injure 14

Guwahati: Six people lost their lives on Thursday and 14 others were injured in mortar shelling and firing in separate incidents along the Bishnupur-Churachandpur inter-district border — Manipur’s most dangerous zone that divides the hills from the valley.
Miscreants also set ablaze two abandoned houses in Imphal West district on Thursday evening.
While two persons, identified as village volunteer Paokam Kipgen and Pausawndam Vaiphei were killed in firing, eight others were injured in mortar and bomb shelling at Khousabung village in Churachandpur district near the inter-district border.
At Thamnapokpi and Naranseina areas in Bishnupur district, two village volunteers — Pebam Deban and Moirangthem Ropen — were killed and six were wounded in heavy exchange of fire between two groups and bomb attacks during the day. Two others — LS Mangboi Lhungdim (42) and Richard Hemkholun Guite (31) — who were wounded in mortar shelling in the Khoirentak-Naranseina area located in Churachandpur-Bishnupur bordering area on Wednesday succumbed to their injuries early Thursday.
Lhungdim, a song writer and composer, died around 1 am Thursday when he was being evacuated to Aizawl by an ambulance for better treatment. Guite died when he was being evacuated to Guwahati via Aizawl at 9 am.
