A tanker used for ferrying chemicals caught fire on Wednesday on the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE), in the third serious vehicle blaze this year.
It broke out at around 2.55pm near Kallang, in the direction of Jurong. The truck, which normally carried sodium hydroxide, was empty at the time.
Firefighters put out the blaze in less than 10 minutes after a fire engine and two motorcycles were sent to the scene by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF). No one was injured, and the cause of the incident is being investigated.
Two taxis have caught fire on highways over the past few weeks – the first on the Central Expressway at the end of last month and another two days ago on the PIE.
