18 shops, 13 houses gutted in fire in four districts

At least 18 shops and 13 houses have been gutted in four fire incidents in Lalmonirhat, Jessore, Moulvibazar and Dinajpur districts.
Eight shops were gutted at Patgram Bazar in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat on Monday morning, reports our correspondent.
Fire service men with the help of local people extinguished the fire after two hours of frantic efforts, police said.
The fire originated from a grocery shop following an electricity short circuit, fire service official said.
The shop owners claimed that the fire damaged property worth Tk 69 lakh.
In Jessore, at least 10 shops were gutted at Collectorate Market in the district town on Sunday, reports our Narail correspondent.
Shop owners said that the fire originated from an electric short circuit at readymade clothe shop ‘Heaven Garments’ at the market at around 6:30pm and soon engulfed the adjacent shops.
On information, fire brigade from Sadar station rushed to the spot and doused the flame with the help of local people after two hours of frantic efforts.
Affected shop owners claimed that cash and valuables worth Tk 5 crore were gutted in the blaze.
In Moulvibazar, seven houses at a slum in Chadnighat area of the district town were burnt to ashes on Monday night, reports our correspondent.
According to local people, the fire broke out in a room in Kibriya Miah’s slum which was under lock and key.
A fireman of Moulvibazar fire Station said, the fire might have originated from a short circuit of electricity.
Goods and valuables worth Tk 2 lakh were damaged, he said.
In Dinajpur, fire at a railway colony in Parbatipur upazila yesterday morning gutted at least 6 tin-shed houses, reports our correspondent.
