Fire Heavily Damages Coventry Home, Displaces Family
battled a blaze that heavily damaged a home at 102 Rabbit Trail Saturday night and displaced the family.
Firefighters were called to the single family home at 5:30 p.m. and those first on the scene found flames blowing out the home’s left side and smoke coming from the roof.
They quickly sounded a second alarm. Firefighters from Coventry, North Coventry, Mansfield, the University of Connecticut, Bolton, Columbia and Andover fought the fire. No injuries were reported.
The home’s residents were away at the time of the fire, but their dog was in the house. Firefighters found the dog as they searched the house and rushed it to a veterinary hospital in Bolton, but it died, Coventry Volunteer Fire Association Chief Joseph M. Carilli said Sunday.
It took firefighters about 30 minutes to get the fire under control. They were on the scene for about two more hours dousing hot spots.
The house was not habitable and the American Red Cross and the Coventry social services department were called in to assist the family, a mother and her son.Carilli asked that anyone willing to assist the family contact Coventry social services at 860-742-5324.
The town fire marshal is investigating the fire’s cause.
