Stockroom fire causes tension in Manila hospital
Updated: 2012-11-04-04:15
Several patients and medical workers hurried out of the Ospital ng Sampaloc when they saw smoke near the emergency room, according to a report by radio dzBB’s Glen Juego.
But responding firefighters quickly placed the fire under control, and traced the cause to an overheating fluorescent lamp that set fire to hospital bed sheets in the stockroom.
“Mukhang nag-overheat ang fluorescent. Ang combustible materials nasunog. Minimum naman ang damage, mga P1,000 ang damage. Walang nasaktan, walang namatay (It appeared the fluorescent lamp overheated and set fire to some combustible materials. The damage was minimum, about P1,000, and no one was hurt),” said one of the arson investigators handling the case.
On the other hand, the dzBB report said local village officials have asked arson investigators to look into the possibility someone left a lighted cigarette near the stockroom. — ELR, GMA News
