Balasore: A fire broke out in an AC compressor in the medicine ward of Fakir Mohan Medical College & Hospital (MCH) here on Monday due to suspected short circuit caused by overloading. No one was injured.
Panicky patients and attendants holding their saline bottles were seen running out of the hospital as the smoke spread across the ward. Harish Chandra Das, a patient in the medicine ward, said when smoke entered the first floor of the building, all patients and their relatives started running down to the ground floor. His attendant immediately picked him up and ran out, leaving all of his belongings behind.
Bhabendra Dey, fire officer of Balasore, said two teams of the fire service department soon reached the spot and extinguished the fire within 30 minutes. CDMO (Balasore) Dulalsen Jagadev said no one was injured in the fire. tnn
