Fire breaks out at yarn unit, none hurt

Ludhiana: A fire broke out at a yarn factory near Chand Cinema in the congested lanes of Gandhi Nagar market early on Sunday. No casualty has been reported in the incident.
It took the firefighters about four hours to bring under control the flames reportedly triggered by a short-circuit.
According to information, the fire broke out around 5am. Tenders from Sunder Nagar and Central fire station were rushed to the spot, but the narrow lanes and jumbled and suspended electric wires slowed down the firefighting operation. Cars parked along the access road also posed challenge for the tenders to reach the site. Leading fireman Rajinder Singh said, “The flames had engulfed the first and second floor of the building, but the ground floor was safe. We started dousing the flames, but refilling of the fire tenders demanded extra efforts.”
He said they made 15 to 20 rounds to refill tenders in order to extinguish the fire by 9.30am. “There was stock of yarn inside the factory, which had caught the fire. However, we are not yet aware of the extent of loss incurred by the owner as he is not in a position to speak to us right now,” Singh said.
Firefighting operations in such congested lanes of the city usually become a daunting task as big fire tenders are not able to move easily.
