A tank truck loaded with ethyl alcohol went out of control, triggered a four-vehicle smashup, and caused fire in Dasmari単as, Cavite before dawn on Tuesday.
The police took the driver of the tank truck into custody and are preparing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple damage to property, radio dzBB’s Rodil Vega reported.
“Sa stoplight nawalan po ng preno… bumangga ako sa gutter, bumangga ako sa ulo, nawalan ako ng control sa manibela. Kahit saan ako lumiko wala na, diretso sa bahay,” driver Reynaldo Garan said.
Initial police reports said the tank truck, loaded with alcohol from Batangas, was traveling along Aguinaldo Highway in San Agustin I village when its brakes failed.
The tank truck hit a trailer truck carrying metal scraps, which then hit a sports utility vehicle and a van.
The tank truck then plowed into an eatery and a furniture shop and caught fire.
Both the eatery and the furniture shop caught fire along with two houses.
An Asian utility vehicle was also damaged in the fire.
However, no one was reported hurt in the fire.
A local resident said he managed to get his family out of the house before it was damaged by the fire. – VVP, GMA News
