Updated: 2012-04-09-10:26

SURAT: Three persons from Surat were charred to death when their car, running on CNG, rammed a mini truck on National Highway Number 8 near Navsari at around 11.45 pm on Sunday.

The accident occurred when the mini truck was taking a turn without showing side signal near Andhal village on the highway. The victims could not control their car due to the abrupt turn taken by the mini truck and rammed it. Soon, those present nearby came to rescue them, but the car was engulfed in flames within seconds of crashing, police said.

Due to fire, the locals could not pull the bodies out and before the blaze was controlled, the bodies got charred completely. Soon after the accident, driver of the mini truck fled from the location. Police booked the unidentified driver for reckless driving and murder.

The victims have been identified as Kanaiyalal Ahir (33), a resident of Nanpura, Mohit Patel (36), living in Delhi Gate area and Ramdas Ahire (50) of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The victims were in a Maruti Alto and were returning from Vapi to the city. Ahir and Patel were business partners and had gone to collect bill money from their clients. They were in business of screws and had clientele across south Gujarat.

Ahire was Ahir’s guest and had gone for an outing with them. He had come to meet his relatives in Surat and accompanied the duo following their request.

Ahir called his family in Surat from his mobile around 15 minutes before the accident and told that he will be reaching home soon and reached Chikhli.

On June 26, last year, four of a family died on the spot after their car running on CNG caught fire soon after it rammed a tanker coming from the opposite direction near Boriyach toll plaza on NH No. 8 close to Navsari town. In the accident, school teacher Hitendra Solanki (45), his wife Daksha (40) and two sons Parth (18) and Karan (15) died.
