Nashik: A garment shop in Satana town was engulfed in flames on Sunday evening, sparking panic among local residents.
The fire broke out around 8.30 pm when the markets were closed. However, given the shop’s proximity to the Vrindavan market, which is in the heart of the marketplace, there was a risk of the flames spreading to adjacent establishments.
“Swift action was taken to contain the fire. Seven fire tenders from nearby local bodies were promptly summoned to tackle the blaze. Thanks to their concerted efforts, the fire was contained within two hours,” police sources said.
The firefighting personnel worked diligently to ensure the blaze did not spread to neighboring shops, the police added.
“The authorities managed to bring the situation under control, preventing what could have been a more devastating event. The fire inflicted significant financial blow to the shop owner, with an estimated loss of Rs 60 lakh reported,” said the police. The police are currently investigating the cause of the fire, though short circuit is expected to be the most likely cause. The community is relieved that no casualties were reported.
