LUCKNOW: City witnessed two fire incidents on Tuesday, with no reported injuries in either case. In the first incident, the fire broke out at the mining office building on Gokhale Marg, causing panic among staff and bystanders.
“The fire started at the backside of the building and spread up to the fourth floor. The exact reason for the fire is unknown and it will only be determined after a thorough investigation,” said Mangesh Kumar, chief fire officer, Lucknow.
The blaze was brought under control within 20-25 minutes, although several files were burnt to ashes.
Mala Srivastava, director, mining department, said, “The fire extinguishers installed in the directorate were functional, and our staff managed to contain the fire to the affected area until the arrival of fire tenders. Subsequently, the fire brigade took over and brought the situation under control promptly.” She further added, “It will take some time to assess the extent of the damage. Apart from files and documents, we also need to ascertain whether computers and electronic devices have been affected.”
In another incident, a moving car burst into flames on a bridge near Bhuhar Chowki under the Thakurganj police station. The incident occurred while Aman Hussain of Hardoi Road was driving his car in the afternoon. Prompt action from a fire tender dispatched from the fire station at Chowk helped bring the flames under control swiftly.
