Firemen struggle to douse flames as 2 industrial units catch fire
Updated: 2024-04-13
Ludhiana: Two fire incidents were reported in two factories on Friday. One incident took place early in the morning at a factory on Daba Lohara road, where a large stock of wood was gutted. The other incident took place at a shawl factory in Puneet Nagar on Tajpur Road. Fire fighters had to struggle to douse the flames in both cases.
When the box factory with its large stock of wooden boxes caught fire, flames spread inside the unit, resulting in thick, black smoke. The smoke made it difficult for firemen to control the flames. Five fire tenders were pressed into service and it took them three hours to douse the fire. No loss of life or injury was reported in the blaze, which, according to fire officials, was caused by a short circuit. When the shawl manufacturing factory in Puneet Nagar caught fire at around 4.30pm, firemen found the access restricted by the narrow lane which led to the burning unit. They had to use pipes to control the flames as fire tenders were parked outside on the main road. A total of ten fire tenders were used to control the conflagration. Despite the presence of the sixth sub fire station at Tajpur Road, fire tenders were refilled at Sunder Nagar fire station.
Panic spread in the area as there were migrant quarters behind the unit, from where people ran outside. Fire officials said that no injuries or casualties were reported as workers who were inside the unit came out on time. The leaping flames and smoke also posed challenges for firemen fighting the blaze.
