Mumbai: – A fire broke out on the third-floor office building of the Pay and Accounts department of Maharashtra Government, opposite the family court at Bandra Kurla Complex at around 3.25 pm. The ground plus seven storeyed building is located next to Balram building. However, no injuries were reported.
“The fire broke out on the third floor at around 3.20 pm. The office was not functional as it was a holiday and only had about two staffers, who had some work, apart from the security personnel. It was these two staffers, who noticed smoke emanating on the third floor and informed the fire brigade. Flames were shooting out of the third-floor window. About half of the third-floor premises were affected by the fire and it also affected the cladding and exterior of the upper floors that are fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh floors. Some of the office records on the third floor may have been destroyed,” said a fire brigade official.
Prima facie, the fire may have originated from the electrical system, said an official. The fire brigade used water from the internal fire fighting of the building apart from its own water lines and completely extinguished the fire by 7.17 pm. The fire was confined to electric wiring, electric installation, furniture, office records, computer, stationary, etc on the third floor.
