A fire volunteer was slightly injured during a fire that hit a commercial building on Pedro Gil Street in Paco, Manila on Saturday night.
This was revealed by Fire Superintendent Leo Andiso, deputy district fire marshall of the Manila Fire Department, according to a report on Super Radyo dzBB on Sunday.
The fire broke out at 8 p.m. on Saturday near the Paco Market, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said.
It quickly spread to other establishments made of light materials, prompting the BFP to raise the second alarm at 8:09 p.m.
The fire continued to rage and reached the fifth alarm.
Firemen were able to put the fire under control as of 10:28 p.m.
The BFP declared fire out at 1:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Estimated cost of property damage was pegged at P1.6 million.
The BFP is still conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
Some stall owners were seen trying to salvage what they could get from their stores affected by the fire, according to Super Radyo dzBB reporter Carlo Mateo.
Meanwhile, the PCS announced that some of its buildings were affected.
As a result, the PCS administration said classes will be done online starting Tuesday, April 23, until further notice.
“For the meantime, onsite classes in all levels are suspended and we will resort to online modality (ODL) starting Tuesday, 23 April 2024 until further notice,” the PCS administration said in a post on Facebook.
