Major fire breaks out in Modinagar cloth factory

Ghaziabad: A fire broke out at a garment manufacturing unit on Sikhera road in Modinagar on Wednesday, trapping four workers inside. No casualty have been reported.
Officials suspect a short circuit to be the cause of the fire at Holy Star Export Limited.
Four workers — Hemant Kumar from Bihar, Upendra Singh from Aligarh, Suraj Kumar, and Surendra Pal from Unnao — were inside the factory during the incident. They had to find their way to the terrace. They were then rescued using ladders, said officials.
The fire department used an earthmover to break the factory’s door as the fire engulfed the three-storey building. Four fire tenders were deployed to extinguish the flames and rescue those trapped inside.
“After their rescue, medical professionals assessed their condition and confirmed they are currently in stable health,” said an official.
Around 3am, authorities were alerted of the fire at Holy Star Export Limited.
“Initially, two fire tenders were dispatched to contain the blaze. However, upon arrival, it was apparent that the fire had spread across three floors of the building. Two additional fire tenders were called in to battle the flames. Fire officials also used a JCB to breach the factory door,” explained Rahul Pal, chief fire officer.
The fire, fuelled by burning raw materials and clothing, intensified, reaching the third floor and engulfing the entire building. “It took over four hours to completely bring the situation under control,” Pal added.
