Hyderabad: As many as 50 workers had a narrow escape when a fire broke out at Allen Homeo and Herbal Products in Nandigama, Shadnagar, on Friday. The blaze, suspected to have begun as a result of welding sparks, quickly spiralled out of control, posing a threat to both lives and property in the vicinity.
As efforts were underway to evacuate workers, some could be seen jumping out of the building from windows to escape the burning G+1 structure. One worker was hurt in the process.
When the fire broke out at 5pm, around 50 workers were inside the facility, with most of them in the shed area and others within the main building. As the flames spread, panicked workers sought refuge on the top floor of the building to avoid imminent danger.
Fire department officials stated that given the massive fire, five fire tenders were pressed into service. The fire fighting is likely to be completed by midnight. Total value of the damaged property is yet to be determined, and the precise cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Police officials stated that the fire most likely started when sparks ignited thermocol material, which then rapidly spread throughout the premises. The situation escalated when the flames reached containers which stored alcohol used in pharmaceutical production, intensifying the blaze.
