Fire in CG Road building, 100 rescued

Updated: 2024-05-18

Ahmedabad: A fire broke out at a commercial centre on CG Road in the Navrangpura area on Friday. As many as 100 people were rescued from the building, said a senior officer with the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES).

Two men, including a fire brigade personnel and a police officer, sustained injuries while breaking glass in the building to clear smoke. AFES officers reported that the fire originated in a godown storing raw materials for an optician’s shop on the ground floor of the Pariseema building on CG Road. “The godown contained raw materials for spectacles and covers. The fire likely started due to a spark from a short circuit,” said an AFES officer.

P B Raval, station fire officer of AFES, said that around 100 people, including two disabled individuals, were rescued from the nine-storeyed building. Fortunately, no one suffered major injuries, except for the two responders.

Approximately 40 AFES personnel and officers took two hours to extinguish the fire. This incident marks the third fire in the city within three days. On May 14, a fire at Commerce House 4 near a petrol pump on 100ft Road in Prahladnagar resulted in the rescue of 64 people after a short circuit caused a fire in an electric duct. On May 15, a boiler explosion in a pharmaceuticals company at Sardar Estate in Narol led to a massive fire, leaving six men with severe burns.
