Fire breaks out in Narol godown
Updated: 2024-06-02
Ahmedabad: At least 10 people had a narrow escape when a fire broke out in a godown at Shiv Estate in the Narol area late on Saturday evening. Fourteen fire vehicles were rushed to the spot along with a robot van, to douse the fire. Divisional fire officer Om Jadeja said the M Marketing godown contained 35,000 litres of paint thinner and other flammable material. The godown, located near a furniture factory, had no senior functionary present when the fire broke out.
The fire broke out when workers were filling material in smaller cans. “We suspect the fire was started by a static charge caused by improper earthing while moving the material into smaller containers. Proper earthing is required while handling flammable materials,” Jadeja said.
The firefighting operation lasted about 90 minutes and the cooling process continued till late in the night. The godown had around 3,000 barrels. Ten people present in the godown evacuated immediately and no casualties were reported. Jadeja said the godown is surrounded by many furniture godowns and they had to stop the fire from spreading. He said that water supply from the estate was adequate for the firefighting.
