Updated: 2024-06-01
Over 200 houses have been burnt down in a fire at a Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya.
The fire started in the Kanthaltoli Bazar area of Tanzimarkhola Rohingya Camp’s D-3 block in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya around 1pm on Saturday. It immediately began to spread.
Three units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence managed to bring the blaze under control around 2:30pm after one and a half hours of effort.
Two units from the Ukhiya Fire Service Station rushed to the scene when the fire was reported, said APBn commander Md Amir Jafar. Another unit from Ramu joined the firefighting effort later on.
A centre for an NGO was among the structures that burnt down, but no casualties have been reported from the incident, Jafar said.
A fire had broken out at the same camp on May 24. Though there had been no casualties, more than 300 residential structures had burnt down.
