Indore: A massive fire broke out at BJP office in Sanyogitaganj area on Sunday night when party workers were celebrating swearing-in of NDA government at Centre.
“Hundreds of workers had gathered at BJP office in Jaora compound to celebrate swearing-in of prime minister and were bursting crackers on the road. It is suspected that a spark from the crackers fell on the furniture kept under a tin shed on terrace,” ACP Tushar Singh said.
He said that some locals noticed smoke billowing from the terrace of the building at around 9:30 pm and informed fire officials. Sanyogitaganj police and teams from fire department reached the spot.
By the time they started dousing the flames, the fire had spread rapidly. “There was a lot of furniture and some waste material stored under the tin shed on the terrace which caught fire,” Singh said.
“One fire tender was rushed to the spot soon after the incident and later four more were rushed in to control the blaze. In all 40,000 litre water was used,” ASI Sushil Kumar Dubey, who led the operation, said.
Singh said that no one was injured in the incident. A fire tender was stationed at the spot as a precaution.
