Agra: A 35-year-old man was charred to death after a fire broke out at his house in Kaveri Vihar colony under the jurisdiction of Sadar police station in Agra on Thursday night, said police.
According to police, the fire broke out on the intertwining night of Thursday and Friday due to a lamp lit in the temple of the house. A cylinder blast then engulfed the entire house in flames.
Victim Bharat Vashisht was the son of carpet businessman KJ Vashisht, said the officials. The explosion caused panic among the residents, who rushed to extinguish the fire. Several fire engines arrived, and firefighters worked to control the blaze.
“As the blaze escalated, they both managed to leave the house in the nick of time. But Bharat later went inside the house, insisting that essential items were left inside. Later, his body was found in the kitchen, where the fire had intensified due to the cylinder explosion. The body has been sent for post-mortem,” ACP Piyush Kant said.
