Godown goes up in flames, its thatched roof collapses
Updated: 2024-06-23
Noida: A fire broke out at a quick-commerce company’s godown in Greater Noida on Friday evening, causing its thatched roof to collapse. After a hustle of five hours, firefighters doused the flames, which were likely triggered by a short circuit.
“Around 9pm on Friday, the fire control room received information from a worker at the godown located in Haibatpur near Gaur City Mall,” said Ajay Kumar, fire officer at Ecotech 3.
Five fire tenders from stations in the vicinity were sent to the spot.
“The fire was controlled after almost five hours of continuous efforts. The roof of the godown was made of bamboo. As the fire erupted, the roof collapsed, and we faced much difficulty in controlling the fire due to debris,” said fire officer Kumar.
It was alleged that the fire spread rapidly because there were grocery items stored in the godown, such as cooking oil and other flammable materials. Despite the intensity of the fire, there were no casualties in the incident.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Amid heatwave over the past few days, Noida has seen several incidents of fire erupting not just in factories but in houses as well.
Blasts in the indoor units of air-conditioners have been the prime reasons behind the blaze in flats and houses.
A similar blast also triggered a fire in an IT office in Noida last month.
